Drill collar
Drill collar is the main component of BHA. The drill collar is located at the bottom of the drill string and is the main component of the BHA. It is characterized by large wall thickness (generally 38~53mm, equivalent to 4~6 times of drill pipe wall thickness), high gravity and stiffness.
In order to facilitate tripping, the elevator slot and slip slot can be machined on the outer surface of the internal thread of the drill collar.
Function of Drill Collar
(1) Apply weight on bit to the drill bit;
(2) Ensure the necessary strength under compression;
(3) Reduce the vibration, swing and jump of the drill bit to make it work steadily;
(4) Control well deviation.
Classification of Drill Collar
Drill collars are generally divided into three types: spiral drill collars, non-magnetic drill collars and integral drill collars.
(1) The integral drill collar is a smooth thick wall round pipe, and the two ends are processed with connecting threads.
(2) The spiral drill collar is machined with three right spiral grooves on the outer cylindrical surface of the round drill collar to reduce the contact area with the well wall and effectively prevent differential pressure sticking
(3) The nonmagnetic drill collar is mainly used for monitoring during oil drilling, and its structure is the same as the overall drill collar. The non-magnetic drill collar is made of N1310 low carbon alloy steel, which is forged through strict chemical composition analysis. The mechanical property test of this material can ensure that the hardness, toughness, impact value and corrosion resistance meet the standards, and it has good low permeability and good machining performance.
In order to facilitate tripping, the elevator slot and slip slot can be machined on the outer surface of the internal thread of the drill collar.
